Will Your Kids Inherit Real Family Photographs or just a Cloud Account?

It’s true to say that we photograph the things we love and family photos are at the top of the list.  We don’t ever want to forget the faces, the smiles and the love that we felt. We worry that if we commit these things to memory alone then over time they might blur and fade. Our memories are fragile at the best of times, and when they do start to fail, we rely on family members or photographs to restore them. Below right is a photo of me aged 4, I remember it being taken but only because I have this photograph to remind me of that day. Often the real value of a photo is discovered over a period of time; having a photo of a grandmother I never met (below left) is really precious to me and I'm so thankful to have it in my possession, to hold it, study it and see if I look like her.

But let’s think for a moment about your family photos

I'm talking about the printed physical photograph that you hold in your hand. How often do we actually print our images? It’s the norm nowadays to take hundreds of digital photos and store them on our phones or upload them onto our computers. We then pick out a handful of our best shots, share them on social media, and that’s it.

With digital technology it’s fair to say that we are the most photographed generation ever...

but what have we got to show for it? Our kids want to see physical photos of themselves with their family. They want to see their story, how they looked as babies and who do they look like now? What they don’t want is to inherit cloud accounts and hard drives of thousands of unedited photos stored at random in no particular order.

So, what will you do with your digital family photos? My top 5 suggestions:-

The Statement Piece: The beautiful framed image of your family as a focal point in your living room. It will make your smile every time you look at it and when it's passed on to your children it'll make them smile too.

The Box Set: 10 mounted images laid out in a beautiful presentation box, you can show these off to your family and friends or frame them yourself in rotation.

Over time, having these photographs to look back on will be priceless and precious

Think about how you feel when you look back on photographs of when you were a child, or holding a photograph of your grandmother in you hand. It is quite possible that many of today’s children will be denied these images because they were either never printed in the first place, they were lost when a phone was stolen or they just disappeared into cyber space.

As we know this does happen. Always have a computer back up but PRINT the images you love.
