Do you know the hidden benefits of framed photography?

As a newborn and family photographer I always encourage my clients to print their photographs and not just keep them on their computer or USB ‘for a later date’.

Studies have shown that a having a strong sense of identity is significant to our children’s wellbeing. We all know that kids love seeing photos of themselves, but having a photograph of them printed and put onto the walls of their home really shows them just how important they are to the family. It’s a ‘non-verbal’ outward sign to the rest of the world that they are valued and worthy of attention! In turn this strengthens their self-esteem and confidence.

The benefits of family photography

David Krauss, American psychologist and author of Photo Therapy and Mental Health, made the case for the benefits of family photographs on children and adolescent mental wellbeing. He says, “I think it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as valued and important ... A photographer’s job is to create and make the image look like a safe holding space for kids... Kids get it on a really simple level.”

A printed photo vs digital photo

Holding and touching a photograph in your hands is an interactive and sensory experience. A digital screen, no matter how high quality can’t possibly hope to reproduce the same power.
